Electronic control system of ignition (and injection) petrol engines

The general information, the description of principles of functioning and safety measure

The general information

The system of ignition of the petrol engine is integrated with system of injection of fuel and copes the uniform block of electronic control ECM (see the Head of the Power supply system, release and decrease in toxicity of the fulfilled gases). The ignition system consists of the engine management module (ECM), the switch of ignition, the ignition module (ICM) with the built in coils, spark plugs, high-voltage wires and the complete set of information gauges.

On engines C14NZ the ignition system consists of gauge CKP, the distributor with a rotor, coils of ignition and spark plugs. All elements of system of ignition are adjusted and provide absence of displacement of the moment of ignition.

Other petrol engines are equipped by system of direct injection (DIS). In this system there is no ignition distributor. Distribution of pressure of ignition on separate cylinders is made by electronic elements. The pressure necessary for formation of a spark, is created by two coils of ignition which are fixed in the module of ignition DIS located on a head of cylinders. Synchronisation of system of ignition is carried out by signals from gauge CKP. Gauge CKP is sideways on the block of cylinders. It registers number of turns of a cranked shaft by means of the gear rotor established on a pulley of a cranked shaft.

For definition of the moment of ignition the management block uses the characteristic of ignition defining the optimum moment of ignition in various service conditions put in its electronic memory.

Safety measures

In electronic system of ignition, the high voltage is generated very much! Be attentive, observe all necessary safety measures at service of any components of system, including not only the cores (the ignition module, the coil and ВВ wires), but also and accompanying, such as candle sockets, a tachometre and the other equipment. Persons with implanted кардиостимулятором to be supposed to service of components of system of ignition should not!

In order to avoid damage of components of system of ignition, and also for the purpose of decrease in risk of reception of traumas, observe following safety measures.

  1. If the engine is not started, do not hold ignition of 10 seconds included more;
  2. Before a detachment of electroconducting of any of system components switch off ignition;
  3. Before connection and a detachment of the diagnostic equipment (for example, a stroboscope) switch off ignition;
  4. Do not suppose grounding of windings of the coil of ignition on weight.
